Biography
Crystal D. Bertrand is a native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she landed her first professional stage appearance at the age of sixteen performing in Lyric Theatre’s production of My One & Only. The following year she was awarded the Bill “Bojangles” Robinson Scholarship which enabled her to continue her degrees in higher education while still performing professionally. companies such as Greg Thompson Productions, Nanette Barbara Productions Canadian magician, Brian Glow, Magic and Illusions/Blue Moon Productions, Heritage Entertainment and performing internationally with Crystal Cruise Lines with some of the world’s best talent. Her thirty year career encompasses a wide range of local and national experience in performance, choreography, co-directing, teaching, community engagement and arts administration. She has choreographed dozens of original dance works at the collegiate level and for several country and jazz bands such as Light Crust Doughboys, Jim Cullum Jazz Band and the One O’Clock Lab Band. She has staged choreography for the Amarillo Venom football half-time show, the “Blanket Toss” stunt in the opening ceremonies for the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, the opening ceremonies for the American Bus Association at the Gaylord Texan, the re-dedication of the capital opening ceremonies for Governor Bush in Austin and for the100th Anniversary Neiman Marcus celebration in Dallas and Houston. Crystal has developed considerable connections in the Texas Panhandle community and has choreographed for Lone Star Ballet, Amarillo Youth Summer Musicals, Amarillo Little Theatre and the Amarillo Opera. She has choreographed over thirty five musicals and productions in which showcased her choreography in WTAMU Theatre Program’s Brooklyn the Musical and The Musical of Musicals, The Musical, were selected to participate in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in San Angelo and in Abilene. Crystal was presented the Distinguished Choreography award for her work in Brooklyn the Musical. Crystal is also the official show choreographer for the TEXAS Outdoor Musical located in the Palo Duro Canyon State Park in which she has been a part of the production for over twenty five years. Previously, Crystal served as Academy Director for Lone Star Dance Academies, the official schools of Lone Star Ballet where she had been involved with the organization for over fifteen years. Currently, she is Instructor and Director of Dance Program at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas.
